Princess Bride Costumes

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

As children, my sister and I loved to play dress-up. My mom was always finding cool things to add to our dress-up box, like an old prom dress from the thrift store, a gypsy skirt, a Beetlejuice mask, or the best item ever – a black cropped shrug with billowy sleeves. It doesn’t sound that great, but it was the most versatile piece in the dress-up box. It was the basis for many a costume – pirate, black bird (for when we performed Rockin’ Robin in the playroom), super villain, and, of course, the Dread Pirate Roberts.

My sister and I adored the movie The Princess Bride (and still do). We would pretend to sword fight, saying with gusto, “My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father. Prepare to die!” My sister’s favorite character, though, was Westley/Dread Pirate Roberts.

I got to thinking about that the other day when I read the Princess Bride reunion article in Entertainment Weekly. And I figured there are probably others out there who love the Princess Bride enough to want to dress up as Princess Buttercup, Westley, or Inigo Montoya for Halloween. So I rounded up several costumes, accessories and wigs at Candy Apple Costumes that would do the trick nicely. Have fun storming the castle!

Farmer Family

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Finding a fun couple costume for my husband and me has always been an adventure. In the past we’ve gone as Robin Hood and a medieval knight (fun because we both got to wield plastic weapons – a bow and arrow for me and a sword for my him), sailors (technically, I went as Shirley Temple but in a sailor dress), and as toys (I was a rag doll and he was Woody from Toy Story).

Things were complicated by the arrival of our daughter last year. At Halloween she was four months old, and we weren’t up for wild and crazy Halloween shenanigans. Instead, we did a fall festival “family fun” type event. We dressed Ruby in a pig costume, and my husband and I donned overalls and straw hats as farmers. It worked well, since I had too much post-pregnancy pudge for anything fancy. We were comfortable, and everywhere we went got big reactions … though I think all the “awwwww, how cutes” were for Ruby!

Christmas Stripes

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

What better way to complete your Christmas costume than with striped tights? They work for elves, Mrs. Claus costumes, or your sexy holiday honey costume. They’re also great to wear if you want to look festive for the holidays without having to go all out with a costume.

We have them in adult size, plus size, and children’s sizes. Check them out in red and white striped or green and white striped!
